Santa Baby and the holidays...

Thought I'd share some of my holiday decorations up.  I love Christmas and decorating for it!  We wait until early December to decorate.

I just finished up this Quilt; it is called "Santa Baby" and is by Buggy Barn.  It is from the Positively Crazy book.

It measures 84" square.  I backed it with Minky in a chevron pattern.  I quilted in the ditch using a walking foot on my sewing machine.  No batting - I love the weight on this and it looks great in the living room!

This is our upstairs living room - the tree has about half of my stitched ornaments on it, red glass balls, and our Lenox collection (we buy one a year).  My two Amanda Lawford Santas are to the side.  Hanging is the Cricket Collection bellpull, and on the table are my Melissa Shirley Nutcracker Pops.  The couch has the sweater pillow.

Downstairs on the fireplace I have our family stockings hung.  On the mantel are some of the odds and ends I've stitched over the years.

Snowman Stocking Ornament

This miniature stocking is backed in blue velvet fabric and lined in white satin moire.  The custom trim matches the snowman.

Two stockings are finished with red velvet fabric backing, gold moire lining, and purchased red twisted cording.

Stocking - Mark

The needlepoint stocking on the left is one of 11 that a lady created for her family.  I completed the stocking on the right to match the rest of the grouping.  Red velveteen fabric with self-welted cording accent the edge of the stocking.

Stocking - Jason

This large needlepoint stocking is backed in dark red velvet to match the color of the name.  The lining is red silk dupioni, and the custom twisted cording is in three colors that match the design  A removable custom soft tassel finishes the design.

Stockings - Tasseled Set

These needlepoint stockings are each finished with a velvet backing, satin lining and custom twisted cording.  The custom soft tassel is created from threads leftover from the design.  

Stocking - Adam

This needlepoint stocking is lined with cream lining fabric and backed with dark red velvet.  It is trimmed with blue twisted cording.  This large stocking is stitched on canvas, so the canvas is edged with bias tape to prevent fraying.

Stocking - Mickey

This needlepoint stocking is lined with burgundy dupioni silk fabric and backed with dark navy velvet.  It is trimmed with blue twisted cording, a burgundy tassel, and a satin bow.  This large stocking is stitched on canvas, so the canvas is edged with bias tape to prevent fraying.

Stockings - Summer's Family

This collection of stockings was stitched by me for my family.  I started with Victoria's, then stitched Brad's stocking, then Madeline and Travis' as they were born.  Mine was the last to be finished.  We don't have any pets so I have been stitching stockings for relatives.  

Each of these stockings are trimmed with twisted cording and backed in velvet to match the design. The linings are taffeta. Stitched on aida fabric, the edges of the fabric are serged to prevent fraying.  Accented with a tassel.

Stocking - Just Nan

This stocking is trimmed in custom twisted cording, backed in a rosy-burgundy velveteen that matches the design.  Accented with ruffled ribbon, bow, tassel, name tag, and hanger.  The linen is overcast to prevent fraying, and the stocking is linen with burgundy tafetta.  Design by Just Nan.

Stocking - Birds of a Feather

These cross-stitched stockings are appliqued with heels, toes and cuffs of woven cotton fabric.  The names are velvet letters.  Each stocking has a hanger and is trimmed with bells.  Designs by Birds of a Feather.

Christmas Stockings

A beautiful, simple way to finish Christmas stockings is with a velvet backing and a satin or silk lining.  The leftover threads from the design can be used to create a custom tassel to accent the finishing.

Stockings - Mary's Collection

Thirteen needlepoint stockings, all finished the same!  I'll bet these look impressive on the mantle.
Each stocking has an suede fabric cuff added with machine embroidered name in gold thread.  The stockings are backed in the same suede fabric and lined in gold moiré lining fabric.  Trimmed with purchased gold/cream cording and a tassel.  This special project took me many months to complete for my client, including finishing bits of stitching to ready for finishing as well as the complete background stitching of one of the stockings, pictured below.

Stocking - George

This needlepoint design was finished with brown velvet backing, custom cording in shades of brown, and a custom tassel.  It is lined in golden brown moiré fabric.  Design by Melissa Shirley. 

Stocking - Ann

This needlepoint stocking is finished with a dark red velvet backing and red satin lining.  The tassel is custom made from DMC pearl cotton and Kreinik threads.  Hand-painted canvas.

Stocking - Kelly

This needlepoint stocking is backed in black velvet and lined with black satin fabric.  The custom twisted cording is in three colors that match the design, and the custom tassel is made from leftover threads.

Stocking - David

This cross-stitched stocking had a velvet cuff sewn to it with iron-on velveteen letters.  The backing is red velvet.  Custom twisted cording from two shades of red and one of green and a red satin lining finish the piece.  Design by Diana Vermillion-Giampa.

Stocking - Santa & Mrs. Claus

These stockings were finished with a cotton printed backing and lining.  They each have a custom four-color cording, and a satin ribbon hanger.  Printed fabric designs are accented with iron-on letters and metallic accents. 

Stocking - Nativity

This needlepoint stocking is finished with blue velveteen backing and a brown fur cuff.  It is lined with blue Moiré fabric.  The custom twisted cording is different shades of blue, green, pink and gold to match the design.  The custom tassels are finished in leftover silk threads from the design, with gold-wrapped neckbands.  Design by Tapestry Tent.

Stocking - White Santa

This needlepoint stocking is finished with blue velveteen backing and a white fur cuff.  It is lined with white Moiré fabric.  The custom twisted cording is different shades of blue, with a hint of silver to match the design.  The custom tassel is finished in blue and white threads on a wood base, with a beaded ruff and cream skirt.  Design by Tapestry Tent.
