I stitched this for my mother-in-law for Christmas this year. It's done in silks and cottons and I did all the finishing in silks with a purchased tassel trim.
Dear Summer, I have just discovered your website thanks to Jane at Chilly Hollow;s mention of it. What beautiful work! Is this particular piece your design? If not, could you tell me anything about it? I have a friend in whose living room it would be spectacular and it's the first needlepoint item that I've found that would appeal to this former New Yorker :) Thanks. Indiana Robin
Robin - I'm so forgetful - I joke but I am serious when I say if I don't write it down I'll forget it. This was a hand-painted canvas (with a solid blue background), but I don't remember the designer. It is fairly small in size - I think the painted area is 6" across? I thought it was LEE but I can't remember now. It was a long work-in-progress.
I stitched it as a companion to a prior pillow I had made her, another Bird of Paradise, that time from Sophia Designs. http://www.summerlouise.com/albums/stitching/designers/sophiadesigns.html
I looked up Bird of Paradise canvases and found some listings. Keep in mind I haven't bought from any of these companies so I can't vouch for them:
I love the bright colors on this one: http://www.artneedlepoint.com/florals/bird-of-paradise-by-dawn-wood
Jane Nichols 14"x14" http://www.silk-road-needle.com/Jane%20Nichols%20Designs.htm
Free one, charted for (10x9) http://needlepoint.about.com/od/patternsbytype/ss/BirdOfParadise.htm
I buy most of my canvases from The Needlepointer, a shop up in Everett, Washington. It's worth giving them a call to see if they have any Birds of Paradise in stock.
